1743 - Thomas Jefferson, 3rd President of the United States of America (1801-1809), author of the Declaration of Independence. And Ken Howard did a great job playing him in 1776!

1852 - F.W. Woolworth, American merchant, founder of chain stores. I loved this store as a kid!

1909 - Eudora Welty, American writer.
