Before we went on this trip, I had a ton of friends breaking up and relationship not going as all thought they might and well I asked Drew if he was in a good space and if we were still on track or what. He said things were fine and he was happy and we were on the same page and so on. Even said he had a plan. I stopped him before he could say what it was.(I was being a bit insane as I was just scared...)
Any who, we went to the Reader's Studio, which was AWESOME, then headed to East Brunswick to see the Fam.
The first night Lori, step mom, said we had our own language and we were so cute. "I liked him two years ago and I like him still," she stated. We communicate really well and are cute in our own fashion as all well matched couples I have seen should be(L&B,M&M, etc). She kept commenting on this for the next few days. My father kept saying "Shawn is a good guy. I like him." I kept saying"I will have to call and tell him you said so. But If you are talking about the guy on this trip with me, his name is Drew!" Ever time he did that I kept making the comments about getting in touch with Shawn. My dad said"You know I mean him," and pointed to Drew. I do understand I mean I did date the other guy for a long time, but still! Lori never called him the wrong name and neither did any one else!(May be Dad was doing it to make sure he was really Drew.. who knows! Silly Man!)
On Thursday, while my Dad, Drew and I went to New Hope, PA, Drew asked my Dad for his permission to marry me. I was told later it was while I was rocking out in the backseat to my iPod. I did see my Dad pat his shoulder, but as he kept calling him Shawn during most of the trip up to this day, who knew what was going on. At dinner that evening, my Dad announced that today Drew asked his permission to marry me and he is excited that we will marry. I turn red and Drew says," I asked your permission. I haven't asked her yet." So I was a bit confused by it all.
The next day we were going to head to the city, but Drew wasn't feeling well so we stayed home and watched movies and had dinner of the left overs we had made earlier in the week as everyone else had plans that evening.
Saturday we headed to Red Bank, home of Kevin Smith and Jay and Slient Bob's Secret Stash()oR http://www.jayandsilentbob.com/
We went in and went on the hunt for free comic books and our current faves as we were ready for Fables and Dark Ivory. Got some Kevin Smith stuff as well and Jeff Anderson's movie, Now You Know, as well as the Daredevil collected that Kevin wrote.(Such Kevin fans!)
After the desk guy told us we were his favorite customers that day and gave us a flyer to the location of the Quick Stop and RTS Video, we headed out to find my dad. Out in front of the store, Drew took me in his arms and said "Sally Rose, will you be my Rose forever and marry me?" I was a little stunned. I got over it and said, "Yes, of course!" and kissing ensued! He gave me a hematite ring as a "placeholder" he said. "I want you to get what you really want and I wanted you to go with me."(And really you can't beat the 2 for $10.00 we paid for the 2 hematite rings we are wearing currently!)
We found my Dad and headed to the car and finally told him on the drive to meet up with Lori. We didn't tell her until later that evening at dinner when he got up and announced " Two years ago you all welcomed me to visit with you as a family. Again I came and you welcomed me again into your family. Today I asked Sally to marry me and she said yes. I hope you will let me join your family as she is going to join mine." Every one cheered and hugged us. We went home and had a champagne toast there. Then it was packing and Enchanted!
Kind of a great way to end the trip back East and come home to planning our future as well as getting rings and such. And just so you all know, if you had a part in our handfasting, be prepared to be asked to do that again, please! More to come as we get stuff settled.
