So I was reading the journals finally and was surprised at one of my friend's comments on the death of George Harrison. I understand some people don't like the Beatles and such but they were a large part of the music world for a long time. They weren't just about "peace and Love" of the 1967-69 era. They were the height of the British invasion(sp) and they brought us the Rolling Stones, and other Brit bands of that time. They also did some of the first track recordings and other such inovations. Yes they also got involved in the drug culture and didn't go to Vietnam, but they were the Beatles and by then they were too old. My father did 2 tours of duty and I was born while he was there. I am very lucky he came home. He doesn't talk about it at all. However, he doesn't hate the hippies who didn't go and he likes the Beatles. He has every reason to hate them. He called me the day after and asked if I knew. I said yes I had heard. We talked about what he thought about this. He was a bit taken aback by it. Another major person of his generation has dies before him. He has had 4 heart attackes and triple by pass surgery and he is still around. No he didn't do "drugs" but he was an alcoholic(sp) and such and he is still around. He survived Vietnam and such.
So when people make "reunion" comments about a band that was important in its time and has done a bunch for the industry, it bothers me. I know that they aren't Gods but they aren't nobodies either. It bothers me that people can hate the Beatles and ignore the role they played in shaping American Music and music as a whole. One doesn't have to like the Beatles but hate is rather strong, don't you think?

I love their music. I didn't grow up in that generation of music and I find it amazing and I wish more bands these days had such enterataining music. I wish I lived in the time of them touring so I could go to one of their concerts. I am still waiting for my mom to give me all of her old records. I have a bunch of 45's but I want the rest of them too.
