I have called mom and am getting ready to work on my last bit of paperwork for the Federal Review that begins Offically today, but will really matter tomorrow. I am pleasantly tired. Why you ask? Well....
Friday I babysat my favorite rugrats! They are always a joy to watch. Then It was home and Sleep as I needed to be up by 7:15 Am to go help out at the Pagan Pride Festival. I had volunteered to help man the Daughters Of Divination booth.(http://www.daughtersofdivination.com) I would be their sales and "Hi! Have you gotten your Tarot Card of the Day yet?" person.
Anastasia picked me up and away we went. It was in Berkeley as all good Pagan Fests should be! We got there and they were organized and had booth spaces marked and every thing! We found our spot and unloaded the little bit we had and waited for the others to show up.(Our space was 22 and considering it is a Divination group, it was kinda appropriate!). Thalassa and Rydell showed up about 20 minutes later and then Thena was about 20 after that and Patricia was there by 10:30. With everyone there, we got set up and ready to go. We put up the canopy and set up shop, two tables for readings, a table with Sparky the WonderBat candles and mugs and a coat rack with Sparky The WonderBat tote bags! There was as I mentioned a little cauldron with tarot cards to do quick "Hi how you doin'?" intros and get people to know who the D.O.D. is and say hello. So we are chatting and I see people like Dana and Kimi setting up their new Business! I saw Doug and Kathy checking everything out. I saw Sami, Steph and Albert which was great! I miss them from Draggin' Bytes. They seemed to be enjoying the fun. I saw the vendors from P-Con. Diana Paxton was there as well as Oberon Zell.... Just A great group to see. There was a parade, gorgeous alters, and just lots of wondrous pagan goodness as well as the typical crazies of Berkeley.
As the day is progressing, I am chatting to people and playing 'Pagan Vanna White" if you will, asking people to pick a card and giving the info I know or handing it over to Thalassa or whomever wanted to field Q and A. Well there we sat and a young woman walked up who asked do we have readings available and I say,"Sure we have tarot, shamanic stones, runes, and pendulum readings. You can chose whom you wish to read for you." "Well how about you?" was her response! Shocked was me! I was not planning on this, but the ladies said sure go for it. So I gave my first PAID reading ever. It felt great! I had fun and she seemed really happy. As the day progressed, I did 6 or 7 other readings. It was pretty great. I am not going to go set up shop in some house on the side of the road or whatnot, but it was just cool to be able to do it and know that I was spot on. All the ladies were supportive as they knew this was my first time doing reading for the public. I mean I have read for people I don't know in NJ at my families pool parties and such, but I GOT PAID. I don't know that I will pursue this as a job or anything, but it was nice to help out the D.O.D. and feel more of a particiapnt than the Saleslady. Just spiffy all around.
After I went to dinner with a great friend. We went to the Red Tractor and then off to Barnes and Noble. I gave a mini Sally History Lesson on Mein Kampf, living in Germany, and it's effect on how I see things. Two girls were looking at it not sure if they wanted to get it and I said, Well it is the plan in black and white. It is his ideas and what he wanted to do. I was asked to explain and I said well I grew up in Germany(ages 10-15...informative years to me!) and I saw many things like Auschwitz and such. I talked to people who still to this day aren't sure all the horrors that happened were real.(More like they just don't want to believe it.) And I told these girls if you want to know you should read it. Knowledge is power and it helps to know the past to make better decisions for the future. I think I threw them for a loop as they said thanks then complimented me on my clothes.
The New Charlene Harris Book came out so I had to get it and my friend got me the Strangers In Paradise Treasury that was there! So Awesome! Then we chatted and went to see The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. I don't care what the purists say, It was a cool movie! If it weren't for the book and such, I am sure people would still like it. The best part for me was the Yarn scene! Funny. And seeing it with someone who would enjoy it and not be upset by the difference in book and movie was great too.
It was just a great day. I have the best life!

That's one of the distressing things about WWII fading into history and the survivors dying off day by day, because soon people will have to take it on faith that this happened, and even then it just becomes abstract things with no human context. As Stalin would say, the difference between tragedy and statistics.
