rosered32: (me as Francine!)
This weekend was pretty great. To begin with I finally have email at work. It doesn’t sound like much to some, but when most of your office communicates that way, it can be a pain. The tech guys came on Friday and I had to fill in at a center so I wasn’t there, but when I got back to the office it was as if they had done nothing. So I called the head tech and said to call me. We worked over the phone and it finally works! (Even though I never received the email he supposedly sent, I did receive email from my co-workers and a friend who is not on my server)
Then Friday night was game! I am playing in a Heros game and we are now on our way to the actual mission having met with the backer and decided he was trust worthy. I play a young bestowed character that can Night stalk and fly, as well as has Chameleon and Tongues spells. It is pretty cool to me. Well one of our group is not as “cool” in their powers, but I think it is just how the game mechanics made her verses how she could play the character. We as a group still look to her as lead, but she feels her character is not lead material. We shall see what happens.
Saturday was WONDERCON!!!!!!!!
So Catherine, Booda and I met at my house and headed into SF. We got in line and then met up with Celeste to chat before heading up to see Wes Craven and the cast of The Hills Have Eyes.(Yeah I know.. horror movie… just go with me on this.) It was really cool to listen to the way Wes described having his movie remade and all did/ didn’t have to do for it. The cast was cool, but I really don’t know them. We also go to see the entire new movie Nightwatch in like 3 minutes (they showed it in super fast fast-forward) and I might go see it. It looked pretty amazing. Next was a raffle for X Men posters for X-Men 3 and I got one as did Booda. I got Phoenix and he got Rogue. The posters are like 6’ x 4’. Very cool! Next was a preview for Pathfinder, An American Saga. It is about the Vikings invading America and battling the Native Americans. Kinda cool, but I am not sure. They interviewed the director, Marcus Nispel.Kind boring as the interviewer was not very lively to me. Any who, next was a preview of the remake of The Omen. It was so creepy as the kid is just dead on for the kid in the old version. Also the other ads were kinda weird and just made you ready to be scared if you know about the Book of Revelations and such. The best one of these two ads was the one where a family is outside and Dad is on the porch making something out of wood. The two daughters are playing in their yard and you can hear hammering. Then a pan to the sky and crows or ravens flying. Then back to the porch as the Dad is tying together these pieces of wood to form a cross and they pan to the Mom hammering. Then as they pan around to the side of the house and back away, the whole house is covered in wooden crosses and then the lighting strikes and it fades to black and on screen you see ”His Time Has Come” and the date of the movie release, 6/6/06. Yeah. They also show a sneak preview and it is of the party scene where the nanny hangs herself and it is just spot on to the original. Yeah! I actually want to see it. I know but I still want to see it and be scared out of my mind! I saw the original ones so…
Next was J.J. Abrams and a sneak preview of MI III. He answered q and a about his directing and such as well as talked about Lost, Alias and Felicity. The whole time I kept trying to remember what I had seen him act in. But nothing came to mind. He was just so animated and down to earth. I felt like he could hang out with the people I know. It was nice to see a “real” person from Hollywood if you will. And he loves his work which was so cool to hear. And in the previews/sneak peaks, I have to say Philip Seymour Hoffman ROCKS! He is brilliant as the bad guy in this. I love his acting, but this is amazing. He will be the reason I go to see this movie.
Next was the main reason for me to be a WonderCon…. Kevin Smith. He was amazing. He got in and spoke and was highly amusing. He was just a power house of energy and info. Of course the first question to him was a dig about his Degrassi episodes, which if you like Degrassi are so cool and fit the story. I enjoy listening to him on the DVDs but to see him in person was terrific even in a giant room full of people. I actually got up and asked him about his being in my favorite comic, Strangers In Paradise, as well as about whether he would be doing a bi-weekly stint on 97.3 KLLC(Alice). He said he had been give the sheet from the comic from Terry Moore and he would be guesting on Alice, but the Program Director said no to that. He will still visit but not a scheduled basis.(DAMN! I like it when he fills in and such.) He also showed a sneak preview of Clerks II. I loved it. Randle on a rant about The Lord Of The Rings! You will love it if you liked Clerks. It is where they are now they are in their 30’s! And the intro was great. He had asked that no one video Tape it and the preview had a “typed” warning and such. Funny and classic Kevin Smith.
Then I headed over to hear Terry Moore’s panel on Strangers In Paradise (SIP) and he was just the sweetest man. He is definitely from TX and has the drawl of a southerner. It was like visiting my aunt and listening to her friends talk. He talked about how he needed to let the characters move on (the series is ending with issue 90!) and that he is a little nervous about what he will do next, but he does have some ideas. He also isn’t looking to make a SIP movie, but if the right script and director etc came along, sure. He did say he had planned to end it earlier, but after 9/11 it changed his story and how he went with it.
Then it was into the dealers’ room. I went to see Alberto at his table and get a copy of his comic, Ant. Next I went to Terry Moore’s table and got pins of Francine and Katchoo as well as magnets and Terry to sign an old calendar I had. Then I asked if he wouldn’t mind a sketch. He said sure and made it of Katchoo on the back of my Horizon school calendar. Very cool. Next was try to catch Kevin Smith. But NO! His line was closed. I did get to see him and was like 3ft away, but not the same. Oh well, next time. I did pick up Silent Bob Speaks, which is looks pretty good. I got a Red Dwarf T-Shit for my friend as well as two patches. Booda found a Dawn Card set for $5.00 bucks for me and a metal backed pic of Dawn. It rocked. I found some new comics to try (Lullaby and OzF5 by Alias) and some other stuff.
It was about 7 by this point and I was hungry. So we got a hold of K and she came and had dinner with us at the Denny’s across the street from the Con. Everywhere else was swamped with Con Goers. After dinner we headed back and watched the Star Wars Fan Short Movies. It was Dark Side Verses Light Side. I was amazed at the creativity. My favorite by far was Trooper Clerks, which Storm Troops were working at the “Death Stop” on the Death Star. Funny! And to see more got to www.atomsfilms.starwars.com to see others. Then it was back on Bart and home. It was a fab day!
Sunday is all about recovering and getting ready for the week ahead. I have laundry and such as well as just sleeping and getting out the guild minutes( All typed just need to send ‘em off to Billy) So hope you all had a terrific weekend and enjoy your week. I so will!
