Can't argue with the Spinoza spoof. It does mirror the mindset of quite a few people. I don't know if I'm comfortable with assumptions of any kind being made about why the Gitmo detainees did what they did though simply because no one knows what's going on in there. And that's the problem. If we did, we could lay this whole issue to rest.
