The problem I had with this article is that the author had valid points, but it was a different time and it was how we all wanted things to be (well except for PNP.. I wanted Duckie, but he was her best friend, so being a teen she might not have seen his awesomeness.)

The comments are worth reading and will make you laugh.

Since the first time I saw the breakfast club back in the early 80's, I've always been disgusted with Ally Sheedy's transformation into a preppy barbie. For me, it has never been about the expectations of another time; it has always been about conformity and the crushing of the individual spirit.

I had the same reactions to both Pretty and Pink and The Breakfast Club the FIRST time I saw them. Especially the part about the nerdy guy STILL doing everyone's homework for them! And Duckie...oh, to have a Duckie of my own back then. He deserved better than second prize blondes.

I always loved Duckie best. But if you read the comments, I totally agree with the post about "Big"... that is creepy.
Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink have been my two favorite movies for about ever...and not, I watched BC with ro when it was on and as we watched it had a few misgivings over her seeing it. I was older than 12 when it came out, but not much. 14? And yeah, 16 candles has a lot of comic messed-upedness. "Mom, why would he want her underwear!!??" Yeah, that was an amusing conversation. She got bored with 16 C and wandered off. John Hughes movies (except FBDO) are related in her brain about par with Duran Duran and Aqua Net (as in "Mom, what were you thinking???)

But I still get all melty when they come on. I will always love them.
