This is from yesterday...
Fact of the Day: M & M's
The double M in M & M's stands for the last names of Forrest Mars and William Murrie, the two founders of the company that first produced the candy. M & M's were first made in 1941 and packaged in paper tubes; they became very popular with American soldiers in World War II because they were easy to carry. The original six colors of M & M's were: red, yellow, green, brown, orange, and violet. Tan replaced violet in 1949. The "m" stamp on the shell of M & M's first appeared in 1950 to distinguish them from counterfeit candies. In 1954, Peanut M & M's were introduced. Over 400,000,000 M & M's are made each day.

And this is today's....
Fact of the Day: VW Beetle
In 1945, the first Volkswagen Beetles were made in a factory in Germany. It was not until 1967 that the name "Beetle" or "Bug" was used for the car; before that, the car was referred to as the "Type 1", "1200", "1300", or "1500", with the numbers representing the engine size in cubic centimeters. The Beetle was first imported into the United States in 1949 with very little success. Then a second attempt to import them began in the early 1950s and in 1953 sales began to improve. In 1972, the Beetle overtook the Ford Model T as the most popular car ever made. In 1981, the 20,000,000th Beetle rolled off the production line in Mexico. The last new original Beetle was sold in the United States in 1978, but it continued to be produced in Mexico up to the 2004 model. In 1998, an updated model called the "New Beetle" appeared in the United States. Volkswagen means "people's car" in German.

From what I understand Hitler had the car designed and built cheaply so everybody in Germany could afford one. And if I remember my history correctly his reason was that they could be converted to a "light tank" so that the people could defend their country.

Peace...

I don't know about the conversion business, but the other is true. VWs were made as a car for the people and to help unify the country. As well as autobauns(sp being built all over Germany to connect all of it and you can drive from one end to the other on one roadway. Even though he was a real piece of work he did do somethings that helped Germans, while hiding the other things he was doing.

The other thing about the autobahn is that it was pointed at major cities in othe countries so that he could get his tanks in swiftly for his blitzkriegs without the trouble of going slow through shitty terrain.

Peace...
